We will be based at the beautiful Riserva di Fizzano. Owned by Rocca delle Macìe, our vineyard in Castellina, this is a country retreat set in the hills of deepest ‘Chiantishire’, overlooking vines, olive groves and cypress trees.

On the first night we will tour the vineyard and olive mill of Rocca delle Macìe followed by dinner in the Riserva’s lovely restaurant. Rocca delle Macìe make a large range of brilliantly made wines, of all colours, many from fascinating grape varieties unique to Italy.

Saturday morning we have a tour and a tasting at Castel di Pugna.  We will be able to visit their amazing ancient cellars which date back to 900, and taste the array of wines made at the domaine, followed by a delicious lunch in their restaurant, Il Granaio di Castelpugna, run by Emanuele’s sister.

Saturday afternoon is a little free time to spend in the historic city of Siena.  You can sit in the Piazza del Campo, where the famous horse race, the Palio is run and watch the world go by with a coffee or gelato.  Saturday dinner is again back at the Riserva restaurant.

Sunday will be spent at the idyllic estate Tenuta di Montechiaro, owned and run by the young Alessandro Griccioli and his family.  We will have an insight into his innovative winemaking as well as his organic extra virgin olive oils and limoncello. Lunch is a real family affair, course after course amidst their lemon groves and the lasagne cooked to Alessandro’s Nonna’s recipe!

After relaxing back at the Riserva di Fizzano, we will enjoy supper in their restaurant, accompanied by many of Rocca delle Macìe’s finely crafted Chiantis no doubt!  A wonderful end to a fantastic weekend in the Italian autumn sunshine.

This is a unique opportunity to indulge in one of the most prestigious and alluring wine regions of anywhere in the world. Furthermore, we sample first-hand the wonderful people, culture and food that make this region so very special.
