Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Cuvée Carine
The Cabernet Franc grapes which make our exclusive Cuvée Carine come from the area called Les Cognettes, which is planted with some of the property's oldest and best vines. A board has been erected here, naming the site, and the bottles bear our own distinctive label. When we were discussing the possibility of an exclusive wine with her father, Carine was expecting her first baby. It seemed natural that Jean-Claude should name his best wine after his daughter, and also appropriate for 3D Wines, as Carine speaks good English and is the one who shows Partners round when they visit. When considering the label we decided to make it blue for a boy or pink for a girl. So when Mathieu was born on May 31st 1994 the colour was decided - blue!
The clay and limestone of Les Cognettes produces supple, fruity wines with good ageing potential. The immediate bouquet is often floral, reminiscent of violets, with red fruit - raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant or even cherry - on the palate. You might also find a touch of liquorice, cinnamon and vanilla in the older wines. Although delicious when young, Jean-Claude always advocated keeping the best vintages for up to 30 years! This wine goes particularly with white meats and roasts, although it is good with most dishes that do not have a very highly-flavoured sauce. It is also a good accompaniment to charcuterie and to cheese, especially goat's cheese such as the local Saint-Maure-de-Touraine.
