Our exclusive red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of the best parcels available from old vine Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The proportions will differ each year depending on the vintage conditions.
The winemaking at La Fagotière is classical, with different parcels fermented separately in a mix of concrete tanks. A five- to seven-day fermentation takes place using whole berries for extra fruitiness, with once a day pumpovers. The wine is then aged in old foudres (large oak barrels) for between 10 and 18 months until bottling the following year.
The wine reflects the unique character of the appellation; complex on the nose with spice, garrigue and animal notes; the palate is sweet and ripe with fresh, peppery, spicy blackberry fruit, grippy yet ripe tannins and a long, weighty but superbly balanced finish. Power, elegance and complexity personified!
This is a wine that can be drunk young with real pleasure but will keep 5-10 years in a good cellar.
Our white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette and Picpoul. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel at 18 degrees centigrade then bottled soon after to retain freshness and purity.
Only a very small quantity of this wine is made, which explains why we can only offer one case per vineyard Partner in each Option year.
The wine is wonderfully fresh and aromatic with rich pineapple and peach flavours on the palate and a very long nutty finish. The whites are rare but a real treat, especially at the table with rich fish dishes.
