Riesling Grand Cru Brand

The appellation of Grand Cru in Alsace was created in 1983, to denote wines produced from the very best sites. Our Riesling is from the Grand Cru Brand, situated on the granite hillside behind the village of Turckheim and Pierre's vines are between 15 and 50 years old. At an altitude of 250 metres and with a southeasterly exposure, this site has been famous for the quality of its wines - especially Rieslings - since the Middle Ages.

The wine has a delicate bouquet, a floral flavour, and a mineral or slaty finish, very typical of the terroir. It is dry, with good balance between fruit and acidity. Delicious when young, it will also improve and become more complex for up to 10 years.

The Gewürztraminer Herrenweg is made from grapes grown on the plain adjacent to the village. The Gewürztraminer grape has one of the most distinctive and attractive bouquets in the wine world - rich and aromatic with lychee, rose petals and Turkish delight all vying for attention. It has a rich texture, with good structure and length, and long lingering flavours.

The Pinot Gris - from the Herrenweg vineyard - is undoubtedly the up-and-coming star of Alsatian grape varieties, combining some of the spicy flavours of the Gewürztraminer with the firm backbone of acidity found in Riesling. It has a bouquet of apricot, honey and lemon which follows through to the palate with an agreeable sweetness - just enough to match rich flavours - and it is carried through by its wonderful balancing acidity.
