Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de blancs Vintage 2006
Vintage 2006 was a year of extremes in Champagnewith an exceptionally warm start to the summer followed by a cool, damp August. However, much to the relief of the champenois winemakers, September was perfect for their harvest with bright, sunny weather. It was definitely a ‘Chardonnay vintage’ with some excellent base wines produced from the Côte des Blancs – this is good news for Partners who enjoy this special cuvée.
Your exclusive Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2006 has been aged on the lees for over five years and has also had six months’ post-disgorgement ageing – helping the wine to balance out after the topping-up process. It has a youthful green colour and a characteristic nose of hedgerow blossom and acacia. The palate is fresh and alive with delicate green apple and citrus fruit as well as a subtle toastiness. The mousse is very fine giving a wonderful mouth coating and the length is very long and concentrated – which bodes well for the future.
Vintage Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is pretty rare and to emphasise this point, we make it even more special, using heavy, ancient bottles called Sacres and a very impressive style of label. This is, once again, a beautifully crafted champagne from your winemaker, Bertrand Robinet. In youth it has the acidity and freshness to match oriental dishes such as sushi or perhaps a classic such as oysters or freshly baked cheese soufflé – a butter-sauced fish will work very well too. After a decade or so in cellar perhaps try it with something special such as lobster, smoked fish, caviar or even a game bird such as duck.
