Domaine des Grands Devers 2006 Tasting Notes
Côtes du Rhône-Villages rouge 2004
Côtes du Rhône-Villages blanc 2005
Our exclusive red Côtes-du-Rhône Villages this year comes from the 2004 vintage. After the excessive heat of 2003 this was a return to normality. It is again a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah - but in a more classic Rhône style. Soft, truffly fruit is cloaked in the spicy aromas of the garrigue, and ripe tannins and good acidity make for a structured wine with power married to finesse.
This is a wine for drinking over the next two or three years. Its elegant fruit and herby aromas make it the perfect accompaniment to roast or grilled lamb (Valréas is famous for its lamb), and it will also be delicious with summer barbecues or alfresco salads.
Our exclusive white Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is from the 2005 vintage and is a blend of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. It has a high proportion of Viognier, currently the world’s most fashionable grape variety, which adds delightful floral, honeysuckle aromas and an element of delicacy. The Roussanne and Marsanne add weight and body, and extra complexity. This is a great vintage in the area, and the wine will develop an attractive nutty character over the next couple of years. At the moment it is perfect as an apéritif, but it also works well with simple grilled fish or poultry.
