Domaine du Carroir Perrin Cuvée Caillottes 2006 Tasting Notes
Sancerre blanc Cuvée Caillottes 2004
The rolling hillsides of Sancerre and the fresh far-reaching views are an evocative reminder of the racy, pungent white wines made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. The part of the Appellation called Les Caillottes is between the town of Sancerre and the village of Verdigny. The soil on these stony slopes has a high proportion of limestone, and it is from a small patch of old vines here that Pierre Riffault vinifies our exclusive cuvée.
This year’s wine comes from the 2004 vintage which represents a return to normality after the excessive heat of 2003. The summer was hot and dry, with refreshing rain falling shortly before harvest, creating ideal conditions for Sauvignon Blanc - resulting in a classic Sancerre. Aromas of grass, nettles, gooseberries and blackcurrant leaves are balanced by delicious fruit character, undercut by crisp citric acidity; this is an irresistible wine with perfect balance. It is excellent as an apéritif or delicious with pasta or white meat in a tomato-based sauce.
