Domaine Lacharme 2006 Tasting Notes
Mâcon blanc La Roche-Vineuse La Genière 2004
Bourgogne rouge La Genière 2004
Our wines this year are from the 2004 vintage, which represented a return to normality after the excessive heat of 2003, and the La Genière vineyard has produced another classic wine similar to the superb 2002. The Mâconnais region is developing an excellent reputation for value-for- money red and white wines, and our winemaker Gérard Lacharme is considered one of the area’s finest.
2004 was a relatively cool year with a long ripening season, which is ideal for the development of complex flavours - very evident in this year’s wines. Our exclusive Genière Blanc is redolent with soft peachy fruit on nose and palate, overlain with a subtle oakiness. The acidity is higher than in 2003, so this wine will age better than its predecessor. Fruit dominates at the moment making it a perfect apéritif, but as it matures, it will take on complex secondary characters of nuts and apricots, making it a great match for poultry and white meat.
Our exclusive red wine this year is from the Pinot Noir vines Gérard planted in our Genière vineyard. Totally different from last year’s offering, the 2004 is elegant with soft raspberry fruit and refreshing acidity. The tannins are perfectly ripe, resulting in a wine which will mature wonderfully, taking on the characteristic tones of game and undergrowth. It is excellent with duck and lamb, and as it matures, it will also work splendidly with game.
