Domaine Lacharme 2007 Tasting Notes
Mâcon blanc La Roche-Vineuse La Genière 2005
Bourgogne rouge La Genière 2005
In 2005 the weather was perfect at each stage of the growing season. By the time the grapes were harvested they had achieved optimum ripeness, with an excellent balance of natural sugar and acidity. It is already being hailed as a magnificent vintage and our white La Genière, from Chardonnay, and red La Genière, from Pinot Noir grapes are products of its beneficence.
Maturing for 18 months in French Allier oak barrels has given our La Genière blanc a honey and buttery nose which follows through smoothly on to the palate to be beautifully balanced by refreshing citrus flavours. Here is definitely a wine to savour on its own but it will also accompany the richest of foods. Foie gras is an obvious choice, but we had it with baked, sugar-glazed gammon bathed in a creamy cheddar cheese sauce – heaven does exist!
Our La Genière rouge is also aged in oak barrels. This delicately balances the natural fruit with tannins to facilitate the wine’s evolution as it ages over the next 5–7 years in the bottle. The toasty notes from the barrel are tantalisingly in evidence on the nose but so, too, are aromas of blackcurrants and raspberries. Rich fruit and a little edge make this a perfect accompaniment for roasted pork, game or beef, and those balmy summer evenings’ barbecued steaks.
