Domaine Michel-Andreotti 2005 Tasting Notes

Montagny Premier Cru Les Resses 2003
Bourgogne rouge Les Plantats 2002

Our exclusive Montagny premier cru, Les Resses, is from the 2003 vintage, a year which has been hailed as a ‘one in a hundred years vintage’ by many and “un millésime vraiment spécial,” in the words of our winemaker, Philippe Andreotti.

Damaging storms in April led to fears for a reduced harvest.  However, by July and August the sun was shining - and boy did it shine!  Prolonged hot sunshine ripened the grapes perfectly, about three weeks earlier than usual. Philippe and Arlette had to cut short their holiday to race home to start the harvest on 16th August.   Despite a low yield, the beautifully ripe fruit was highly concentrated, with a high level of potential alcohol and low acidity.

A bouquet of fresh lemons and white flowers gives way to refreshing flavours of mellow citrus fruits and apples; here is a wine to revitalise the driest throats on a hot summer’s day.  Delicious as an apéritif or as an accompaniment to seafood, white meats or light, creamy cheeses; this is what unoaked Chardonnay is supposed to taste like!

Our red Les Plantats is from 2002.  Do you remember all that rain?  In spring there seemed to be floods everywhere and there was a real fear that crops would be washed away or that humidity-induced rot would scupper the harvest.  In the event, the September sunshine was warm and ripening and the vendange produced excellent grapes. Light and fruity with flavours reminiscent of raspberries, cherries and strawberries, our Les Plantats will be at its best between 2005 and 2008 so there’s no great hurry to drink up.  Enjoy it best with tender chicken, veal or beef dishes or soft, flavoursome cheeses.
