Domaine Michel-Andreotti 2006 Tasting Notes
Montagny Premier Cru Les Resses 2004
Bourgogne rouge Les Plantats 2003
Our exclusive Montagny premier cru, Les Resses, is from the 2004 vintage, a year which signalled a return to classic winemaking conditions after the freakish weather of the preceding year. Spring frosts reduced yields somewhat, but these were followed by a long, warm summer, with the grapes ripening under perfect conditions. The low yields resulted in wines of great intensity and the ideal conditions gave ripe grapes with perfect balancing acidity.
While aromas and flavours of white peach dominate the wine, there is also a distinctive minerality about it, and it is perfectly balanced by refreshing citrussy acidity. Delicious as an apéritif or as an accompaniment to seafood, white meats or light, creamy cheeses, this is what unoaked Chardonnay is supposed to taste like!
Our exclusive red Les Plantats is from 2003. This was an unbelievable vintage in Burgundy. The hottest summer in living memory, it produced wines which are atypical for the region, but still marvellous. The blistering heat resulted in super-ripe Pinot Noir, packed with ripe black cherry and plum fruitiness. By harvesting early, Philippe was able to achieve unbelievably high sugar levels and ripe tannins while retaining acidity. The fruity nature of the wine is complemented by a hint of spicy oak and the result is a wine which is delicious now, but which will also repay brief cellarage. Enjoy it with white meat, such as chicken or veal, but it will also work well with beef, game or soft, flavoursome cheeses.
