Domaine Michel-Andreotti 2007 Tasting Notes

Montagny Premier Cru Les Resses 2005
Bourgogne rouge Les Plantats 2004

2005 is being heralded as an exceptional vintage throughout France, and Burgundy is no exception.  Here in the appellation of Montagny the Chardonnay grape is, unusually for Burgundy, not matured in oak barrels (nor, of course, flavoured with oak chips).  The soil of clay and limestone pebbles allows for a gentle infusion of minerals and maturing in stainless steel cuves ensures that the maximum natural fruitiness is extracted from the grapes.  The result is a refreshing, slightly floral bouquet – some will detect new-mown hay, hazelnuts or almonds – which follows through on to the palate with notes of thirst-quenching citrus fruits.  Although delicious on its own as an aperitif, your wine will also compliment white meats and crudités.  However, it is with fish and shellfish that this exceptional wine comes into its own – and there is a saying amongst the local fishermen that the Saône pike jump with joy at the thought of being cooked in Montagny wine!

Our exclusive red wine, Bourgogne Les Plantats, comes from Pinot Noir grapes of the 2004 vintage when yields were affected by harsh spring frosts, but a long, warm summer ensured that the surviving grapes were ripened to perfection.  The result is a well-balanced, lightly fruity wine with delicious flavours of raspberries, cherries and strawberries.  We are promised another seasonably warm summer for 2007 and this wine would certainly be the perfect accompaniment for the salad and barbecue days ahead – but there is no need to rush, if you can resist the urge, try and hold some back to enjoy over the next 3–5 years.
