Domaine Brelière 2005 Tasting Notes
Rully rouge Premier Cru Les Préaux 2003
Rully blanc La Barre 2003
This year’s wines are from the 2003 vintage. Very hot and very dry weather meant a low yield of only 25 hectolitres per hectare, when normally it is closer to 40. This resulted in a high concentration of natural sugars and flavours coupled with low acidity in both the red and white grapes. Overall it was a superb vintage, albeit one for drinking rather than storing.
Our exclusive white burgundy is the Rully La Barre. Made from hand-picked Chardonnay grapes it is buttery-smooth, well-balanced and refreshingly citrussy. Here is a wine that you can enjoy by itself or with a variety of dishes - fish or white meats in sauce or mild, creamy cheeses.
Our red burgundy is the Premier Cru Les Préaux. This year the Pinot Noir grapes have low tannins and bags of mouth-watering fruit flavours, especially raspberry and cherry. Here is a classy wine that, unusually for red burgundy, begs to be drunk relatively young. Try it with savoury entrées, like warm pâté or the local oeufs en meurette (poached eggs in a red wine sauce). Quail in blackcurrant, duck in orange, partridge or almost any meat in a red wine sauce; these are just some of the flavours enhanced by this wine.
