Domaine Chevrot 2007 Tasting Notes
Maranges rouge Sur le Chêne 2004
Hautes Côtes de Beaune rouge 2004
Facing directly south and bordered by the stand of oak trees (chêne) from which it takes its name, our Pinot Noir grapes could not have a better naissance. Add the passion of Fernand and his son, Pablo, and no wonder our wine is recognised widely as ‘special’. The vineyard’s tasting notes describe a “nose of blackcurrant and blood oranges with hints of cigars and grilled almonds”. On the palate, fruit and tannins are balanced to produce a Maranges Sur le Chêne which is delicious now and which will continue to develop over the next five years. Try it with medium-grilled red meat or with fowl; Cathy particularly recommends Poulet de Bresse – the famous chicken of the nearby town of Bresse.
From the same year but produced from older vines and a plot of clay/chalk soil, our Hautes Côtes de Beaune rouge 2004 displays a subtly different guise of the Pinot Noir grape. Matured for 15 months before bottling, half in oak barrels and half in a variety of large wooden barriques, the result is a mellow, toasty, blackcurranty ensemble which is a perfect match for roast beef.
