Domaine Jacob En Songe 2006 Tasting Notes

Gevrey-Chambertin En Songe 2004
Hautes Côtes de Beaune Les Larrets blanc 2004

Back to normality after the excessive heat of 2003, 2004 turned out to be a classic burgundy vintage.  A warm, dry summer made for a long ripening period, giving red wines with good sugar levels and wonderful ripe tannins.  The whites are also superb, with ripe fruit balanced by refreshing citrus acidity.

Our exclusive Gevrey-Chambertin En Songe continues to attract critical acclaim from all corners of the wine world - last year the 2003 vintage picked up a Silver Medal at the International Wine Challenge and was chosen as  Decanter’s Wine of the Month in November.

The 2004 En Songe is of medium depth, with attractive red-fruit character on the nose and palate.  Its delightful fresh fruit quality is coupled with hints of undergrowth and spice, and as it matures it will take on meaty, smoky aromas, typical of a great burgundy.  As this wine is structured with good acidity and velvety-rich tannins, it will serve as an excellent partner to roast meat and poultry - and will also work well with game and ripe cheese.  This is a classic burgundy from an excellent vintage, and will be a wine that repays keeping for five or more years.

2004 was also an exceptional vintage for white burgundy.  Made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the vineyard that Jean-Michel planted on the hillside of the Hautes Côtes, the Les Larrets is also winning plaudits from wine critics - the 2003 was awarded a Seal of Approval at the International Wine Challenge last year.  The 2004 vintage has intense peach and oaky spice aromas on the nose, and these follow through to the palate where they are balanced by fresh citrus acidity.  Perfect as an apéritif, it is also a great accompaniment to seafood and white meat, and although it is drinking beautifully now, it will develop further complexity over the next two to three years.
