Domaine Jacob 2006 Tasting Notes

Savigny-lès-Beaune rouge 2004
Hautes Côtes de Beaune rouge 2004

This year’s wines are from the exceptional 2004 vintage.  After the excesses of 2003 this year was a return to normality as the weather was warm and generally dry, yet light rains just before harvest freshened up the grapes, and then disappeared to leave perfect conditions.  The long ripening season resulted in grapes with ideal sugar levels and extremely smooth, ripe tannins, balanced by excellent refreshing acidity.

Both the Savigny and the red Hautes Côtes are of medium weight - the watchword this year is elegance.  Delicate raspberry fruit characterises the Hautes Côtes, while the Savigny has darker fruit, redolent of blackcurrants and blackberries.

This is a return to a more typical burgundy, and these are wines of real finesse which will age extremely well.  They make a great accompaniment to lamb or game.
