Domaine Dubois 2006 Tasting Notes
Nuits-St-Georges Les Plantes au Baron 2003
Côte de Nuits-Villages rouge Les Monts de Boncourt 2003
This year’s wines are from the unique 2003 vintage. The year got off to an inauspicious start with hail and frost decimating the crop. However, the summer that followed was the hottest in living memory. The harvest took place almost a month early, and the resulting wines were magnificently full-bodied and rich.
Our exclusive Les Plantes au Baron comes from the world-famous Appellation of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The powerful nature of the vintage made it perfectly suited to extended oak maturation, and this, combined with the fact that 50% of the oak barrels were new, resulted in a powerful wine with soft, ripe tannins. It is a very advanced vintage, which is drinking beautifully already, but it will gain in complexity over the next two or three years. The supple mix of fruit and oak make it the perfect partner with meat and game.
Our second exclusive wine is Les Monts de Boncourt rouge from the Côte de Nuits-Villages Appellation. This has been matured in a mix of French, Hungarian and American oak barrels and this complements the rich, dark fruit flavours of this exceptional vintage. This is a perfect accompaniment to grilled steaks or hard English cheeses.
