Domaine Désertaux-Ferrand 2006 Tasting Notes

Côte de Nuits-Villages rouge Les Perrières 2003
Côte de Nuits-Villages blanc 2004

This year’s Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Perrières - which won a Silver Medal at the International Wine Challenge last year - is from the heatwave vintage of 2003. Spring frosts and hail reduced yields, which were restricted further by the incredibly hot, dry summer. The extreme heat resulted in the earliest harvest in living memory, and produced wines with fantastic up-front fruit character. This is a wine that is already extremely attractive now and delicious with roast pork, lamb chops or hard cheese, but it will also improve in bottle for a further 3-4 years when it will develop gamey, savoury - even farmyard - flavours which will happily accompany richer food such as pheasant, wild boar, rabbit or rich beef casseroles.

Our Côte de Nuits-Villages blanc 2004 is made from an unusual blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Blanc. A year in oak barrels balances the refreshing citrus/sherbet fruit with smooth nuances of butter and vanilla to produce a wine which is delicious by itself or makes a great accompaniment to white meat dishes and many cheeses. The summer of 2004 was perfect for white burgundy, and Vincent’s has all the hallmark characters of white peach, apricot and subtle oakiness. Over the next three years it will also develop an attractive hazelnut character.
