Our exclusive Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Perrières comes from the 2004 vintage when late-season storms would have daunted most men but, with winemaking in his fingertips and the patience born of a lifetime jousting with nature, Vincent took it all in his stride. And his instincts were right – some sustained sunshine in September allowed successful ripening and the vendange was completed well before the autumn rains drenched the vineyard. The resulting wine has complex ripe fruit and spice flavours which combine with the slight edge of mellow tannins to provide a delicious mate for a wide variety of dishes. It is drinking perfectly now, although you may continue to savour it over the next 3 to 5 years. Creamy casseroles of beef, lamb or pork are the obvious choices, but it also perfectly compliments poached eggs in red wine (oeufs en meurette) or pork in the form of charcuterie, sausages or pâté.

Our Côte de Nuits-Villages blanc is from the 2005 vintage which was one of those almost-perfect years that winemakers dream of. Untypical coolness at flowering time in early June reduced the expected yield but then summer arrived and the grapes thrived in the heatwave and infrequent rain showers during August. High temperatures increased the natural sugar in the Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes which are blended to make our Côte de Nuits-Villages blanc and the acidity which the vines derive from the mineral-rich, clay/limestone soil made for an ideal combination. Add to this oak ageing for a year and the result is a stunning combination of flavours which will please the most discerning of palates. Citrus freshness, butter smoothness, depth of flavour and length – they are all there. Try it on its own as a refreshment on a warm day or as an aperitif, but also try it with fish, chicken or veal in thick, creamy sauces. This is a wine you will only want to share with very special friends.
