Château Rousselle 2007 Tasting Notes
Côtes de Bourg 2005
Our exclusive 3D Wines cuvée from the exellent 2005 vintage is a blend of 68% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc. 2005 was a superb year for producing wine in many areas of France, and Bordeaux was no exception. The summer was a perfect balance of hot sunny weather and lower than average rainfall, leading to a harvest period in early October when the grapes were supremely ripe. The wine was matured half in oak barrels and half in cement tanks to give the optimum balance between structure and fruit.
The tannins from the oak combine with the fruit to give a fresh yet full-flavoured wine. It is bright ruby in colour and has a cherry bouquet with ripe blackcurrants and a touch of liquorice and chocolate on the palate. It is full and powerful, but well balanced, and has good length. You can drink it now thanks to its supple tannins, and as it is from a very good year it will improve in bottle over the next three to five years. It is ideal with red meat, especially roast lamb and roast beef, game, casseroles, beef stroganoff and hard cheeses. This wine is a great all-rounder from an excellent vintage – delicious!
