Domaine de Colonat 2006 Tasting Notes

Morgon La Roche-Briday 2004

After the excessive heat of the previous year, 2004 was a return to normality, as the warm dry summer, followed by a small amount of rain in September, meant that the grapes were harvested under ideal conditions. As a result, Bernard has produced a wine with a superb structure and abundant fruit.

The wine is still a youthful purple in colour and has a delightful aroma of cherries and blackberries. The granite soils of Morgon give wines with superb acidity, and this is evident as a balance to the sweet juicy fruit on the palate. This is a wine that may be enjoyed now for its fruity, youthful exuberance, or kept for six or seven years when it will develop subtler nuances.

Morgon is a superbly versatile wine that may be enjoyed on its own or with casseroles, barbecued meat, or cheese. It is also a wine that will repay keeping, as it is one of the most durable of the Beaujolais Crus - so keep a few bottles back to see how it develops.
