Spring 2007: Eric and Christine’s Vacqueyras le Clos 2003 was awarded four stars in the November issue of Decanter Magazine in a feature dedicated to biodynamic wines. The following month, Christine travelled to Paris to present their wines at the invitation of the French Foreign Ministry in a tasting entitled “Great French wines and French women winemakers”. With only six female winemakers present, this was an exclusive event, which included such distinguished company as the French Foreign Minister, M. Douste-Blazy, and foreign ambassadors resident in Paris.
Spring 2006: Eric and Christine Saurel attended a nine-day official biodynamic winemakers’ convention in Japan at the end of 2005. Like all biodynamic winemakers, Christine and Eric follow a strict principle of combining organic methods with observations of the moon’s phases and the positions of the constellations to determine favourable moments to perform all the various vineyard tasks. To farm this way takes single-minded dedication, and the benefits do not appear overnight - Eric’s father started the process in 1980 when he stopped using artificial fertilizer, and their first vintage of truly biodynamic wine was produced in 1999.
