Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc

Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc

The wines from Kahurangi Estate exhibit the classic, exuberant and fruity New Zealand style with a purity and elegance that Nelson is renowned for.

The Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on a mix of Moutere clay and stony soils.  They are machine harvested in the cool of the morning and then undergo a cool fermentation in stainless steel followed by immediate bottling under screw cap.  This gives lots of aromatic, gooseberry and capsicum characters and a well-balanced, long crisp finish.

The wine is fresh and uplifting and very versatile, working well as an aperitif or as a match to flaky white fish and shellfish dishes, fresh asparagus, salads and acidic cheeses.

Pinot Noir

The Heaphy Pinot Noir vines are also planted in different parts of the Moutere vineyard.  They are all hand harvested and undergo a classical fermentation in small open-topped fermenters before being matured for between 9-12 months in French oak barrels.

The wine is medium ruby in colour and has an alluring nose of dark fruits, spice and cream.  The palate is fresh with a beautifully soft, creamy mouthfeel and elegant black cherry and blackcurrant fruit flavours underscored with a spicy, peppery twist.  It is delicately and sensitively made with a long and balanced finish and lots of charm.

This fruity style works well with Asian food, but is equally at home with lamb shanks with puy lentils, roasted duck breast with a morello cherry compote or pan-fried fillet of beef with a creamy wild mushroom sauce.
