Georges Bureau is a charming man who spent most of his working life in shipping, living and working on Merseyside for several years before deciding to indulge his passion for wine and, as he says, "fly on my own". Both Georges and Violaine come from winemaking families in Bordeaux so they had plenty of expertise to call upon.
The entire domaine had been in one family for many years, until in 1997, three-quarters of the estate had to be sold in settlement of a family inheritance. After buying the domaine, Georges invited his English friend over to show him around, and shortly afterwards we were told that here was an ideal 3D vineyard-in-waiting. Having met Georges and Violaine, we did not let it wait very long.
