The Sorin family have been winemakers in Rochefort for generations. The present vineyard, created by the amalgamation of the holdings of Gilles' great-grandparents, totals 18 hectares and is situated on the southern bank of the river Loire, gently sloping towards the flood plain that so influences the microclimate.
On cold spring mornings the slightly warmer air over the river helps to prevent the danger of late spring frosts. Equally, the autumn mists which roll up from the river and envelop the vines are responsible for helping to fully ripen the grapes, and in warm autumns aid the development of 'noble rot' which adds extra richness to the resulting wine.
Not far from the domaine, on the island of Béhuard, the Sorin family have a gîte available for rent by Partners.
