Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de blancs Vintage 2007

Vintage 2007 was typically challenging for the vignerons.  Spring was unseasonably hot, followed by a cold, wet summer with hailstorms in July.  On the 24th August, good weather returned along with a drying easterly wind which helped prevent rot.  Harvest began at the end of August and ended third week of September.  This up and down, topsy-turvy year tended to favour Chardonnay over the other grape varieties.

Your exclusive Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2007 has been aged on the lees for over four years and has also had six months’ post-disgorgement ageing – helping the wine to balance out after the addition of the dosage.  It has a youthful green colour and a melange of orchard fruits, acacia and lemon balm on the nose.  The palate is crisp and precise with green apple, citrus fruit as well as subtle vanilla and toast.  The mousse is creamy, mouthfilling and very fine giving wonderful lively length and vigour.

Vintage Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is pretty rare and to emphasise this point, we make it even more special, using heavy, ancient bottles called Sacres and a very impressive style of label befitting the tiny quantities produced.

This is, once again, a beautifully crafted champagne from Bertrand.  In youth it has the acidity and freshness to match oriental dishes such as sushi or perhaps a classic such as oysters and shellfish.  After a decade or so in cellar it becomes umami-friendly. Perhaps try it with something special such as pan fried scallops with a lightly curried celeriac puree or even warm foie gras.
