Givry rouge Premier Cru La Grande Berge 2009
Givry blanc 2010
Great vintages inBurgundyare easy to remember. Just think of the number nine! ‘99, ‘89, ‘69, ‘59 and ‘49 were all great vintages. And now 2009 seems destined to join these hallowed numbers. The year started off very cold; ideal for vine restoration. This was followed by a hot and humid spring. The hot weather continued throughout August and indeed right through to harvest ensuring ripe, healthy fruit for the vignerons to work with. Little sorting was necessary and after the testing vintages of 2006, 2007 and 2008, there was an audible and justified sigh of relief.
Your exclusive Givry Premier Cru La Grande Berge 2009 is deep in colour with a lovely nose of autumn fruits, undergrowth and toasty oak. The palate has freshness allied to rich texture as well as impressive pure fruit flavours, lovely definition and a core of minerality running through it. It has sweet, supple tannins and a mix of cream, spice and mocha in the finish. This is a great example of the hedonistic 2009 vintage, but displays the classic Ragot purity and elegance too. It can be enjoyed now or over the next 7–8 years ideally with seared duck served with a bramble sauce or perhaps a hearty dish such as pheasant casserole
Your Givry blanc Champ Pourot 2010 is a fresh, modern white burgundy with a lovely combination of bright chardonnay fruit and perfect balance of creamy, spicy oak. There is also the Ragot core of minerality woven into the pure lemony fruit flavours. Made from old vines and aged in 25% new oak, it has a good concentration of fruit and spicy flavours that will complement roast chicken, pork, grilled fish or the strong, local cheese Époisses. Like many modern, fruity and fresh white burgundies, it is best drunk young.
