Our exclusive white Mâcon is called La Genière, named after the vineyard where the Chardonnay grapes that produce this wine are grown. The grapes from this steep hill above the village are all hand picked and after fermentation the young wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months. It is then bottled in the spring before being released to Partners.
La Genière is a round, balanced wine with excellent length. Its refreshing vanilla and lemon smoothness on both nose and palate have been compared to a Puligny-Montrachet! Foie gras, fish and white meat in cream sauces or goat's cheese are just some of the perfect matches for this wine, but it is also delicious on its own. It will keep well and develop in bottle for a further three or four years if carefully cellared.
Within the climat of La Genière Gérard specially planted some Pinot Noir vines to produce our exclusive Bourgogne rouge La Genière. First harvested in 2003, here is a medium-bodied wine with a delightful bouquet of raspberry and cherry-flavoured red fruits. A year’s ageing in oak barrels accentuates these flavours on the palate and delights the senses.
Although smooth and easy to drink in its youth, this wine has an underlying structure that will ensure it will go on improving over the next few years. Try it with red meat, especially when served with a sauce, and with hard English cheeses.
