Beaune Premier Cru Les Avaux 2009

Your exclusive Beaune Premier Cru comes from the famous 34-acre Les Avaux vineyard to the west of Beaune, towards the famous appellation of Pommard.  The wines of Beaune are known for their delicate softness and floral aromas.  They can age gracefully and develop into some of the most succulent and appealing burgundies of all. Les Avaux is considered to be one of the very best Premier Cru sites – indeed, the famous Hospice de Beaune owns 15% of this particular vineyard.

Vintage 2009 was near perfect for the vignerons ofBurgundy following the tradition of great vintages ending in an ’09.  A cold restorative winter followed by a warm humid spring and early summer, got things off to a good start. August was hot and the fine weather continued throughout harvest. Very little sorting was necessary, with ripe, healthy grapes producing charming, elegant and fruity wines.

Your exclusive and limited 2009 vintage is a deepish ruby red in colour with a soft, delicate lightly floral nose.

The palate is enticingly sweet and rounded in the mouth with juicy acidity.  Red fruits vie with dark plum, cream and toasty oak.  The finish is long, balanced and elegant.  Drink to 2017-2019.

This deliciously fragrant and juicy wine will work well with many dishes.  Do try it with roasted Bresse pigeon or roast lamb with garlic and rosemary.  As it matures, try it with confit of duck, rabbit or pheasant for a delightful match.

Continuing the succession of medals for your exclusive Les Avaux, your 2009 vintage was awarded a Bronze at the International Wine Challenge last year – the largest blind tasting in the world.
