Nuits-St-Georges Les Plantes au Baron 2009
Côte de Nuits-Villages rouge Les Monts de Boncourt 2009
Vintage 2009 was near perfect for the vignerons right across the Côte d’Or. A long hot summer, perfect autumn and just the right amount of rain at key times ensured ripe, healthy grapes of both colours. The wines are charming and fruity and will please all Burgundy lovers.
Your exclusive Nuits-St-Georges Les Plantes au Baron 2009 comes from a small vineyard to the south of the appellation with stony clay and limestone soils. With 12 months’ ageing in a mix of top quality French oak barrels, of which a third were new, this is the finest Nuits-St-Georges yet from Béatrice. It has an intense, brooding nose of smoke, minerals and ripe black fruits and a palate that is engagingly smooth, silky and mouthcoating. Fresh redcurrant and raspberry fruit complement sweeter blackberry fruit, mocha and coffee and the finish is long and spicy. Gone are the days when you had to lay your Nuits-St-Georges down for a decade or two first. This delicious wine can be drunk young and fresh and yet may be cellared for up to a decade.
Your second exclusive wine, the Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Monts de Boncourt 2009 has redcurrant, cream and minerals on the nose and ripe, smooth flavours of black and red fruits enveloped in sweet, juicy tannins. It finishes long, spicy and well balanced.
These fabulous wines are typical of the generous 2009 vintage. They will of course work very well with a wide range of foods. Try them with French classics such as fillet of beef in a red wine and shallot sauce, Bresse chicken with St George’s mushroom or Cîteaux cheese.
