Pouilly-Fuissé En Châtenay

We first started buying wine from Thierry Drouin in 1994, but in 1999 the En Châtenay vineyard, tucked away in a little sheltered valley on the northern edge of the rock of Vergisson, became available and Thierry rented it exclusively for us. The wine has a fresh, citrus bouquet backed up by a hint of spice. It is a distinctive greeny-gold in colour and as the bouquet develops in the glass you begin to detect traces of flowers and honey.

Our wine is matured in one- and two-year-old oak barrels so that although there is a touch of vanilla and spice from the oak, this is never enough to dominate what is essentially a fruit-driven style of wine. More complex nuances of clove and almond begin to develop when the wine is two or three years old and these flavours also show on the palate, helping it develop into a well-balanced, complex and delicious wine.
