Rully Premier Cru Les Cloux 2009
Aligoté de Bouzeron 2010
Vintage 2009 in Burgundy was magnificent. With warm sunny weather throughout the summer and, crucially during harvest time, wonderfully ripe, charming wines were made with smooth, supple tannins.
Your Rully Premier Cru Les Cloux 2009 is deepish ruby red in colour and has a typical scent of red and black berries mixed with undergrowth and spice. The palate is fresh and gently rustic, with black cherry and redcurrant fruit, cream, spice and cedar from the 12 months’ barrique ageing. It has good tannic grip too which bodes well for the future and allows many food matching opportunities. In youth it will suit the classic regional dishes such as coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. After a number of years in bottle, it will develop typical secondary aromas and flavours, thus providing a good match with gamey meats such as duck or pheasant with a creamy wild mushroom or truffle sauce. Drink to 2017.
The tiny village of Bouzeron is the most northerly of the Côte Chalonnaise villages, situated just a few miles from the world famous village of
Puligny-Montrachet. Here the terroir of climate, soil and slope are ideal for the Aligoté grape. This is a grape variety that is often encountered in the bars and restaurants locally. It is typically mixed with cassis to make a Kir for those with a sweet tooth. However, lightly chilled, and with a few nibbles, it can be a most delightful aperitif offering light, refreshing, lemony fruit that echoes the terroir of the region.
David Déprés’ Aligoté is some of the best you will find. This is partly due to the age of the vines; some were planted 100 years ago and thus produce small quantities of luscious grapes with tremendous concentration from very low yields.
Your Aligoté de Bouzeron 2010 comes from another excellent Burgundy vintage. It possesses a mix of minerals, flowers and citrus fruit on the nose - not unlike Chablis in fact. The palate is fresh and appealing with crisp orchard fruit flavours, honey and wet stone minerality. Try it with seafood, smoked fish, Cantal or goats cheese. A great value, very versatile vin de terroir. Drink to 2013.
