Domaine de la Vieille Fontaine
The Burgundy village of Bouzeron has a wonderfully vinous ring to it - which is one reason we turned off the beaten track to discover it some years ago. Another reason was that it is the only village in France with its very own appellation for Aligoté wine, awarded in 1979 - Bourgogne Aligoté de Bouzeron. Aligoté from Bouzeron is famous throughout France but is generally overlooked in the UK's dash for Chardonnay.
Our winemaker, David Déprés, is a charming young man whose Aligoté de Bouzeron is available in some of the top restaurants in France. One of David's professors at wine school was one of the most respected winemakers of the Côte de Nuits, Jean-Jacques Confuron, and when you taste his wines you will realise that David was a very good pupil.
