Côtes de Bourg Dédicace

The Côtes de Bourg is the middle of the three wine districts that line the Dordogne and the Gironde between Libourne in Saint-Émilion and the approaches to the open sea. (The others are the Côtes de Blaye and Fronsac.) It is smaller than the Côtes de Blaye to the north and its wines will generally age for longer, although they are not as tannic as the wines from Fronsac. Your wine will have already benefited from three years' ageing before release and will therefore be ready to drink straight away, although it will also age very well and should go on developing for at least another three years if carefully cellared.

Your exclusive wine from Château de la Grave - called Dédicace - is made from the classic Bordeaux grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). We selected the blend during a comprehensive tasting at the château in November 2000. Philippe had chosen seven different samples of his wine (different grape varieties and vineyard sites) that we tasted separately, and in different combinations and proportions, until finally we were happy with the blend.

The wine is aged in oak barrels, half of which are new and half of which have been used once only for the production of Philippe's delicious white wine. The resultant wine has a lovely perfumed bouquet of ripe blackberry fruit with notes of vanilla from the oak; a deliciously rich and smooth blackcurrant flavour which is balanced with silky tannin and fine acidity.

Valérie (who speaks good English) thought of the name Dédicace in honour of the dedication put into the selection of the blend - and the hard work they will put in each year making it for you. It is a unique expression of the château's grapes and the skills of your winemaker, and it is dedicated to you.
