Côte de Brouilly Des Lys 2009

2009 was a beautiful year for growing grapes and making great wine.  The fine weather throughout maturation produced Gamay grapes that were thick skinned and had deep colours, excellent maturity, sweetness and intensity.

Part fermented using macération carbonique techniques for imparting extra fruitiness and part aged in used barrels for eight months, your exclusive Côte de Brouilly Des Lys 2009 is deep purple in colour and offers an attractive mix of bramble fruit, spice and minerals.  There is good freshness on the palate, typical of the vintage, and the flavours are of black cherry, cassis and cream.  The tannins are powerful but supple and juicy  and the finish is long and spicy.  It will provide excellent drinking over the coming three to five years.

This year (2011) we are also offering the Lacondemine’s delicious Brouilly 2008.  Coming from younger vines grown on a mix of granitic and sandy soils, this is a slightly more supple, open and forward style of wine – perfect for drinking whilst your Des Lys matures.  Both wines are fine examples of Cru Beaujolais that can be lightly chilled and drunk on their own.  However, they offer tremendous versatility too for food matching – try them with cured ham,Lincolnshiresausages or leg of lamb.
