Fleurie Vieilles Vignes 2009
Your exclusive cuvée, Vieilles Vignes, comes from the memorable 2009 vintage. The vignerons call it ‘the year that had everything’ – producing majestic Beaujolais with deep concentration, elegance, velvety tannins and granitic undertones.
Your Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 70 years old and has undergone classic Cru Beaujolais winemaking. Because of the greatness of the vintage, a longer extraction and maceration was undertaken giving more colour and structure. A mixture of whole berries and de-stemmed fruit was fermented in both stainless steel and concrete vats and a partial, classic carbonic maceration helped impart the lovely aromatics and fruity flavours for which Gamay is renowned.
The 2009 vintage is deep in colour with bright cherry and berry aromatics on the nose and sweet, ripe, supple flavours on the palate of summer fruits, griottes and cassis. The finish is long, smooth, rounded and elegant. Although delicious to drink now, it will evolve over the next three to five years becoming a touch gamier and complex. It will make a wonderful accompaniment to your Sunday lunch – or try it with andouillette for an authentic match.
